Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital is the Mid-South's first and only comprehensive pediatric medical facility. Founded in 1952, Le Bonheur treats 130,000 children from 47 states and many countries. The hospital is home to one of the nation's 10 busiest pediatric emergency departments and hosts one of the largest pediatric surgical brain tumor programs. It is the teaching site for the University of Tennessee Department of Pediatrics and home to the Children's Foundation Research Center of Memphis.
Key Job Responsibilities include:
- Performs and documents the preanesthesia assessment and evaluation of the patient. Obtains informed consent for anesthesia and related services.
- Reviews, requests, and orders laboratory/diagnostic studies.
- Selects, obtains, orders, and administers preanesthetic mediation or treatment.
- Develops and implements an anesthesia care plan. Provides postanesthesia follow-up and care.
- Selects, obtains, prepares, and uses equipment, invasive and non-invasive monitors, supplies, and medications for the administration of sedation, anesthesia, and pain management services; perform safety checks as needed.
- Selects, orders, obtains, and administers analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids, or blood products necessary to provide anesthesia services.
- Performs all aspects of airway management, including fiberoptic intubation.
- Initiates and administers post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system. Initiates and administers respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the postoperative period.
- Evaluates the patient’s response to anesthesia and surgery; take appropriate corrective action during the postanesthesia period.
- Discharges the patient from the postanesthesia care unit.
- Implements acute and chronic pain management modalities.
- Manages emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing, and determining disposition of patients, including providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs and fluids, and using basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques.
- Places and manages regional anesthetic techniques, as delineated by clinical privileges.
