Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgery Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our busy, experienced program in Bangor, Maine. Two years of cardiothoracic surgery experience or prior cardiovascular ICU nursing experience is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Daily rounds in the CVICU and stepdown units
- Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing
- Manage critically ill post op cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, including hemodynamic interpretation and medication management within the CVICU
- Develop and implement patient management plans independently and in collaboration with surgeons
- Provide proper counseling and education to patients and families within role limitations
- Diligently assist surgeons in the O.R. and perform minor procedures at bedside including but not limited to thoracentesis, chest tube insertion, endoscopic vein harvesting (Terumo), radial artery harvesting, video assisted thoracoscopy, and robotic thoracic procedures
- Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management
- Schedule: (4) 10-hour shifts with some weekend and weekday call
